The BLSSD Future 2nd annual Teach Me to Dance fundraiser was held in late June in Gainesville to benefit the IAMSTEM Summer Academic Camp.
The event raised over $5,000 for the camp, which is being held through Aug. 3 at Caring and Sharing Learning School in southeast Gainesville.
During the fundraiser, activities consisted of a meet-and-greet event, dance workshops, and a dance showcase.
The iAM STEM CAMP is offered to students in kindergarten through 12th grade, with students in K-5 receiving instruction in reading and math and students in grades 6-8 participating in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) work. Students in grades 9-12 will participate in STEM and college preparation courses.
Flex your dancing muscles and learn new dances while also raising money to help a worthy student attend a science, technology, engineering and math camp, with swimming and tennis lessons, field trips and meals in the mix.
The cost is $65 per week, with a 20 percent discount forsiblings.
To help eligible families offset camp fees, Wanda Lloyd, a teacher at Talbot Elementary School and at the iAM STEM Camp, will be hosting the two-day “BLSSD Future Teach Me to Dance” fundraiser, with dancing lessons, workshops, a dancing showcase and meals to raise money for camp scholarships. During the camp, Lloyd will be teaching swing out and line dancing as well as reading, math and science.
